When it comes to awards, I've always questioned what "best" means. Not last night. Do you know what's best? Racists and bigots had a really, really, really bad night at the OSCARS. F*** every last one of them infinitely + a GOOGLEPLEX. I embrace the reality that what "best" means and looks like is changing right before our eyes. The story, the actor, the artist, the technician and on and on. The nominees and the winners. I could say a lot of things that I don't like about the ACADEMY from the failed and tone-deaf changes (and in all fairness, the welcomed backtracks) to the way the telecast plays music over speeches encompassing a lifetime of work and dreams (what do they think we watch for?). But last night, if you believe in hard work and dreams, the results were clear and heartwarming. And since it's televised around the world, for a brief few hours, we actually showed the strength of diversity and ultimate acceptance of all people at a time when the politically venomous exports (words and images) have promoted traits of our country that I'm ashamed of. It's just a glimpse, but it was the "best"... Hard to beat RAMI MALEK's speech ... NETFLIX didn't win the best picture (it will soon, I'm sure) but it's bringing the world to the world, unlike any other media company. Stories from all over, in languages I don't speak, with actors I rarely recognize. And I love every single minute of it... If you're not all in you will fail. Slow or fast... I love seeded bagels. But sometimes a poorly made bagel will not have the seeds on both sides. That makes for a very uneven Sunday bagel. Enter my girl. There's one thing she will not leave the house without. What? TRADER JOE'S EVERYTHING BUT THE BAGEL SESAME SEASONING BLEND. Smart. No brainer. You make your bagel, with cream cheese and fixings. You put the seasoning on the cream cheese. Even seeded awesomeness back in action. Genius at its most simple. Each bottle costs $1.99 at the store. But try to buy it on AMAZON and you'll get fleeced. There is an entire grey-market entrepreneur set that is making a small fortune off my bagel seeds. Like this couple, experts in "retail arbitrage"... Who makes your life easier? Who picks up your slack in your shared responsibilities? Do you think they don't notice? They do. Maybe it's time to say thank you. And maybe it's time to say sorry and ask what you can do to make their life easier. They may make it look easy, but it's not and you're making their life harder.
