Oli Herbert, founding guitarist of Massachusetts metal band All That Remains, has died at age 44.
“We were devastated to learn that Oli Herbert, our friend, guitar player, and founding member of All That Remains, has passed away,” the band wrote on its Facebook page Wednesday morning (Oct. 17). “Oli was an incredibly talented guitarist and song writer who defined Rock and Metal from the Northeast. His impact on the genres and our lives will continue indefinitely.”
The group said that no further details on Herbert’s death were available at press time.
Hello everyone this is Beth, Oli’s widow. Thank you all for the kind thoughts and words. I don’t want to go into what happened until we have a complete picture, but as soon as we do there will be a statement from… https://t.co/zzZqQPeea4

According to Connecticut State Trooper spokesperson Tanya Compagnone, Herbert was found dead in a pond near his Connecticut home around 5 p.m., where police were dispatched on Tuesday afternoon after someone reported the guitarist missing. Officers searched the area and found Herbert’s body in a pond, with officials saying at press time that there doesn’t appear to be anything suspicious about his death; an autopsy was slated for Wednesday to determine the cause of death.
Until his death, along with singer Phil Labonte, Herbert was the only other remaining original member of the group. Herbert appeared on all nine of the group’s albums, including the upcoming Victim of the New Disease (Nov. 9). A spokesperson for the band had no additional comment at press time.

Really shocked to learn of Oli Herbert passing away. AE and ATR toured together years ago and Oli always used to come out and see us play when we came through his area. The nicest guy. The metal community’s lost another great musician way too early. #RIPOliHerbert #AllThatRemains pic.twitter.com/B4CM5pKEbA
